MRCOG Part II underwent major rework in 2015. In 2016, there was a new change – The written exam has been disconnected from the OSCEs! We believe this is a good thing.

The format of the exam was totally changed in 2015. The paper is split into two types of questions – EMQs and SBAs (single best answer). The SBAs are single-best-answer type. EMQs are typical extended matching questions with a Lead In, Options and Stems. You will be faced with 100 SBAs and 100 EMQs. However, the weightage for EMQs is higher at 60% of your total score. GEM focuses on the EMQs and SBAs as we feel that with good overall preparation and targeted EMQ preparation, you are looking at a comfortable pass. We will discuss SBAs at the Course as well and give you insight from candidates who have sat for the exam previously.

Gynaepedia Examination Masterclass

Gynaepedia Examination Masterclass is an interactive two-day course held at Torquay, Devon. The course is very intense and deconstructs the anatomy of MRCOG II. We aim to unravel the mystery behind EMQs as knowing your enemy is the first step towards ultimate  victory. The days are split between Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Hot topics are covered first, followed by important favourites of the College. The emphasis is to do as many Questions that we can through the day to give you practice. More importantly, we modify your approach to the Questions so that you can swiftly tackle them on D-Day. The content is heavily audited to reflect College favourites. There are no theoretical lectures. All topics are discussed in Q&A format. By the end of the course, you will have devised a technique which can translate into a high score for the exam. We aim to equip you with confidence as you face your first Questions on the day of the Exam.
The Masterclass is highly individualised. Quality is imperative which is why we have limited seats. We leave no one behind and the Course aims to get you through the Exam with a high score.

If you are sitting the Exam for the first time and want to have a blueprint to pass the exam in the first go – you need to attend GEM.

If you tried the Exam and failed, and now want a tailored approach to put your preparation back on track – you need to attend GEM.

Here at GEM, we have done the hard work of researching the Exam. With clear, concise concepts covered at the Course, you will feel a palpable difference in your approach to the Exam.

The material provided at the Course will change your tactic. The earlier you attend your course, the sooner you will be able to correct your course towards an easy pass for the exam. Therefore we recommend you to book for earlier dates so we can help you most. This aspect has been reflected in candidate feedback where many candidates felt they would have maximised benefit if they would have attended the Course sooner.

Preparation

There is a wealth of free material on this website that includes most topics that have at some time appeared, or are likely to appear in the Exam. We would strongly urge you to be well conversant with the topics covered on this website. We feel that this is the bare minimum required to pass the Exam. It is likely that you will already be well versed with these topics but if not, we hope the material provided will be of value to you!

Sample Material

Please click the link below to get a Sample Mindmap on destroying(!) an EMQ on Stopping Contraception in Patients Over 50 years of age. This topic is common with the Exam and Candidates find it tricky to get it right. The Mindmap should be helpful in getting all the answers for this topic 100% correct!

At GEM, many high-yield topics are discussed with similar Mindmaps  in the popular Vade Mecum is excellent to knock out Exam questions. Good Luck!

    • Dear Mariam,
There is a lot of content on the website that is essential to achieving a high score and a comfortable pass in the Exam. It is open access and free to use. It is the bare minimum you will need to get a good result.
The course material itself is very high yield. The material is tied-in to the course. At the course, we spend time to modify your approach to crack the EMQs. After that, there is intense EMQ practice on all topics that are ‘hot’ and have been recurring in the recent exams. The GEM booklet assists in acheiving this mastery. It is difficult to transfer this information online.
We would strongly recommend you to attend the course. There will be more dates for the course shortly.
We are exploring the avenue to start a live online course as there has been a lot of interest from candidates like yourselves. We will put it up on the website when it becomes available, but it is unlikely to occur before March.

Please use the free resources on the website in the meantime.
All the best with the exam!

    • Hi Mariam,
We trialled an Online Interactive Course recently with 5 candidates. Two candidates were based in UK while the other three were from the Gulf. Unfortunately it did not work as well as we hoped. It appears that bandwidth limits the usefulness of such a course. Despite a good connection, high speeds and software, the current technology is not ready to support a full classroom session.
We will have to hold GEM at Leeds for the time being, while we wait for technology to catch up to this requirement.
We would like to explore the opportunity to hold GEM sessions in Dubai & Singapore as there has been a lot of interest from these areas. This is certainly a viable option if we could get the critical mass of candidates within a particular area.
      We will keep you posted!

In the meanwhile, good luck with your revision!
